Materials selection & testing
The right material choice, defended by data. RMD supports metallic and non-metallic material selection and property testing across the aerospace stack — from early trade studies through coupon-, subcomponent-, and component-level evaluation.
Selection process
- Requirements framing. Translate structural, thermal, environmental, and manufacturability needs into a scored material matrix.
- Trade studies. Candidate short-list with allowables, cost, lead time, and supply-chain resilience considered together — not just strength-to-weight.
- Risk framing. Flag single-source risk, obsolescence, and export-control implications early, when they can still be designed around.
Testing capability
- Mechanical property testing — tension, compression, shear, fatigue characterization plans.
- Physical property characterization for structural, thermal, and environmental use cases.
- Coupon-through-component evaluation with statistically defensible sample sizes.
- Test plans and reports written for engineering, program, and review-authority audiences.
Where RMD adds leverage
When a program needs someone to close on which material and why — with a paper trail that will survive a design review — an independent engineer with allowables intuition saves weeks.
